Sportsman Lake Review

Sportsman Lake, Seminole Oklahoma

Dates we camped there:  June 7-9, 2019

Website:  http://www.seminole-oklahoma.net/sportsman.html

What we Paid:  $15.00 per night

Reservations:  Yes, they take reservations, however you have to call the Ranger. We had trouble getting him to answer until we text him, then he called right back.  Was able to secure sites the week before we were going. You pay when you get there at the box down by the boat ramp where there are pay envelopes.  There is a $5.00 per day charge for boats as well.  The park was full the weekend we went.

Who we went with:  3 other couples (Lisa & Todd, Jamie & Justin, Jeana & Jeff) in their RV’s and our Son and Daughter-in-law stayed with us for the weekend and Lisa and Todd’s Daughter came as well.

Since both Mitch and I are both off on Friday’s we headed out about 10AM, after getting to the site and setting up, we headed into Seminole for lunch!  We found a yummy Bar-B-Que place called Hog’s BBQ at 1715 N. Milt Phillips Ave, Seminole, OK.  I had the chopped beef lunch basket with fried okra and tea and Mitch had the 2 ribs with fried okra and tea also.  Both the meals were very good and we would definitely go back.

Make sure you don’t miss the turn for Cove 2 once you get in the park, as there is no where to turn around for miles if you do!

The sites we stayed in were the ones down by the boat ramp in the Cove 2 area; Sites:  24 (Jeana & Jeff), 25 (Todd & Lisa), 26 (Fonda & Mitch) and 28 (Justin & Jamie) were the ones we stayed in.   The sites are not as defined as the rest of the sites behind the restroom and pavilion in that area, but they worked for us.  They do have sites with Sewer as well behind the restrooms.

The sites each had their own water and electric.  We did have trouble with the electric at site 28 and they had to use the electric at site 27 (luckily there was no one there) until they came out on Saturday and fixed it. The Ranger called and the couple staying in Site 28, got a free 2 night stay for their trouble. So, great customer service at this lake!

The Restrooms are in need of an upgrade.  The showers have had the faucets removed, so there are shower stalls but no water.  There are two toilets in the restrooms, one that was clogged and the other was quite old and dirty.

There are quite a few geocaches in the park, so we went on a nice hike Saturday morning and found several.  There are also several that you can only get to by Kayak or Boat, since we didn’t bring the Kayaks this trip, we didn’t go after any of those.

We went swimming in the afternoon, the place has a very nice swimming beach, it is sandy both on the beach and in the water.  It has a couple of shade pavilions as well that you can use.   We were able to walk to the beach from the campsites, crossing over a nice fishing bridge.

There are also several pavilions and a hut you can rent and there are quite a few equestrian trails that I have heard are very nice.

Mitch brought his small two man boat and fished in the mornings and evenings, catching a few small ones.  The lake does not allow skiing or jet skis, so it is mainly a fishing lake.  There are quite a few stumps so best to go slow even while fishing.

For Dinner we did Bring your own meat…..everyone brought a side dish to go with it. Most of us brought steaks! Justin and Jamie make homemade ice cream and Cobbler! Yum.

We saw deer, squirrels and lots of birds in the area.

It is a small and quiet lake that we absolutely love to go to.
